Courtney’s Folky Ensemble

The Ensemble is an acoustic folk collective that has played in the pubs and clubs of Tiverton Town with a number of different line ups over the years. They come together with a love of music and a joy in fellowship. Traditional folk in all its glory!

With a tune choice that will have you singing along, Dave is a real entertainer. Expect 20th centuries covers, 

Hinton Jazz

Giles Hinton and friends will be bringing the jazz to the occasion. This time around Giles will be joined by his awarding winning son, Emile Hinton and the wonderful Colin Murphy. 

Tony Kilshaw

Local living, Tony Kilshaw, plays the tunes that we all love. Those anthems, old and new, are so easy to get carried away singing along to. He is a great raconteur and will have you entertained from beginning to end of his set.

Llongstone Moon

With a growing reputation locally Llongstone Moon are a band on the march. Having established themselves  as a duo they have recently recruited bot a drummer and a bassist. Fabulous covers and some striking self compositions. 

Gaz Marson

Gaz Marson sings tunes from the the American folk gospel tradition, such as the  The Wayfaring Stranger”. It was likely originating in the early 19th century  about a plaintive soul on the journey through life.

According to the book The Makers of the Sacred Harp, by David Warren Steel and Richard H. Hulan, the lyrics were published in 1858 in Joseph Bever’s Christian Songster, which was a collection of popular hymns and spiritual songs of the time.

During and for several years after the American  Civil War the lyrics were known as the Libby Prison Hymn. This was because the words had been inscribed by a dying Union soldier incarcerated in the notorious Confederate prison. It had been believed that the dying soldier had authored the song to comfort a disabled soldier.

Monkey Wrench

Lewisham’s finest will be joined by Tyrone Thomas  and the Hintons for this year’s Winter Withyfest. Their larger and fuller selves will be taking us  through a musical journey with stops in jazz funk, rhythm and blues and reggae.   

Mothface

Mothface are a 8 piece band with tremendous energy and verve. Not easy to pigeon hole, but something of Chumbawamba and Culture Shock with more than a slice of psychedelia. A proper festival band. 

No Shenanigans

When Keith Fenwick and Jo Manning have been stalwarts of the Tiverton music scene for some years. Having hosted a open session in Courtenay’s Bar for a number of years they are now running a well attended  Open Mic at the Riverside. Great entertainment value, they play cool covers with a good few 80’s and 90’s indie favourites.

Mick Osborne

Mick Osborne, is a likeable, engaging and fascinatingly quirky musician. Having played in such splendid local bands as the Luddites and Backtrax, Mick, has been an integral part of the local music scenes for a number of years. 

Dylan Reader

A great musician and singer, Dylan plays mainly folky tunes. Think of Eliza Carthy, Richard Thomason and the best traditions of English and Irish folk and Dylan is your man. 

Red Light Green Light

Red Light Green Light are a rock and pop trio (Steve Ogilvie, Mark Jardine and Rupert Sells) are originals and play their own tunes plus few covers. They play with a sense of humour and fun that is infectious.   

Razale Scott Oliver

A singer song writer who has a stripped back acoustic acoustic style that allows her raw passion, sharp humour and authenticity to shine. Soul, country, folk and blues are touchstone genres that influence her artistic style. Drawing on the lyrical sensibility of her ultimate musical icon David Bowie, she writes with poetic beauty.

Tyrone Thomas

Tyrone Thomas has a rich musical history. He played bass on the first 3 ATV singles in 1977 (“Love Lies Limp”, “How Much Longer” and “Life After Life”). He later left to play guitar and join the Convent Nuns and various other bands like the Baby Trio, Image Wot Image. Latterly, he plays for the wonderful and enduring Paradise 9. Here Tyrone will treat us to his solo set.

Jack Tipper

Jack Tipper is a free spirit as well as a superb singer song writer. His compositions are beautiful and striking. He has that rare quality of being totally authentic, writing and singing songs rent from his life experience.
